You can use these instructions when you want to edit a group of records in Salesforce, and make a single change across multiple records

Step-by-step guide

This guide assumes you are using lightning views and not classic views.  if you do not have this feature available you may just need to switch to lightning view from the settings wheel.

In this example, I will look at a group of contact records and make a single change to a selected group of them.

  1. Navigate to the object which contains the records you would like to edit.
  2. View the records in LIST form, such that you can see the checkbox to the left of the record
  3. You must be able to see the field you want to change from the list view, so if it is not part of your standard view, add the field through the field picker in the top left.  You should have the list of the records incuding the field you want to change across multiple records on your screen.
  4. Select, or check the box of the records where you would like to effect the change.  Now all the records you want to change have checks next to them
  5. On the field you would like to change from the list view, click the pencil (edit) icon.  This tells Salesforce you want to edit JUST that field within a record.
  6. A window will pop-up and show you the number of records that will be changed, and will allow you to change the value of that field.
  7. Click the bottom button which shows the number of records to change.  SF will make the field change to all checked records
  8. You can review the change directly on the screen.
  9. You must SAVE the changes by clicking the save button at the bottom of the screen.
  10. Now all the records you checked have that one field changed on all of them!  You have successfully completed a multi-record change
