Use these instructions to disable Acoustic Echo Cancellation on Lenovo laptops. Acoustic Echo Cancellation prevents echo caused by the PC’s mics picking up the sound of the integrated speakers, but has been reported to suppress sound of other speech. If you are having trouble with your microphone sounding muffled, try disabling this setting.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Hit the Start Button, type Lenovo Vantage, and launch it when it populates.
    • If it does not populate, then you can download and install it from here: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/software/vantage
    • If it asks you to log into the Microsoft Store, just close the login boxes. You do not need to login to install the software.
  2. Mouse-over Device on the top menu, then click Audio.
  3. Scroll down to microphone section.
  4. Configure:
    • Microphone is on.
    • Microphone volume slider is all the way to "Loud"  on the right side.
    • Suppress Keyboard Noise is unchecked.
    • Acoustic Echo Cancellation is unchecked.
    • Optimize my mic.... is set to Normal.
